Public Transport Information!

Our Excelsior club member Jason Lee wrote these great and very detailed instructions for runners, crew, and other participants who would like to join us by public transport! Thank you Jason!

Directions using Public Transportation

From San Francisco

Take SamTrans Route 292.  The 292 starts at the Temporary Transbay Terminal in the Financial District and travels down Mission Street, 10th Street, Potrero Avenue and Bayshore Blvd.  For runners arriving on BART, there is a bus stop at Mission and 5th Street, one block south of the Powell station.  Get off at Bayshore Blvd & Old County Road and walk west along Old County Road to the start.

Buses run every 30 minutes.  There is a bus that leaves San Francisco at 8:00 am and arrives in Brisbane at 8:40 am.  Please consult the route map and detailed schedule at

Fare: $4.00 cash ($3.60 with Clipper) from San Francisco to Brisbane; $2.25 cash ($2.05 with Clipper) from Brisbane to San Francisco.

From the South Bay and Peninsula

Take the first Caltrain (train #421) on Saturday morning.  This train leaves San Jose at 7:00 am and Palo Alto at 7:31 am.  Detailed schedules for other stations are available at

Option 1: Get off Caltrain at the Broadway station.  Walk across the station parking lot on the left side of the train to the SamTrans Route 292 bus stop on California Drive.  Board SamTrans Route 292 in the northbound direction (towards San Francisco) and get off at Bayshore and Old County Road in Brisbane.  Walk west along Old County Road to the start.
The train arrives at the Broadway station at 8:06 am. Route 292 departs the station at approximately 8:20 amand arrives in Brisbane at 8:59 am (
Option 2: Get off Caltrain at the Bayshore station, which is about 2 miles away from the start.  Exit the station and jog south along Tunnel Ave.  Tunnel Ave. becomes Old County Road when it crosses Bayshore Blvd, which takes you directly to the start.  The train arrives at Bayshore at 8:25 am.

Fare: Caltrain depends on where you board and exit.  If you do Option 1, SamTrans is $2.25 cash ($2.05 with Clipper) but you also save $2.25 on Caltrain because you are traveling a shorter distance.
